Grace and peace be unto you.
We live in a sinful world therefore we will sin. Nonetheless, sometimes we yield to a particular sin more than others. Scripture says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us” (Hebrews 12:1).
How do we overcome the sin that trips us up frequently?
1. Pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Daily prayer strengthens our relationship with Christ. As such, we are empowered to walk according to his will.
2. Prayer and Fasting. There are some sins that can only be dealt with by prayer and fasting, “But this kind does not come out except by prayer and fasting” (Matthew 17:21).
3. Diligently study God’s word and meditate on it daily. “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). God’s word will reveal the areas of our lives that are not committed to him. His word also encourages and guides us along his path.
4. Give the sin to God and ask him to remove it permanently. “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us” (1 John 5:14).
Heavenly Father, thanks for your love, grace, and mercy. We give you this sin that has plagued us for some time. Help us to pray and fast, pray without ceasing, and diligently study your word. Search our hearts and reveal any evil that is within us. In Jesus’ name amen.
