Do Not Be Alarmed; They Are Here

Grace and peace be unto you.

What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 1:9).

Have you noticed that history repeat itself? King Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived discovered that everything has an original which is followed by either carbon copies or imitations. Bearing this insight in mind, nothing should really surprise us. Scripture says, “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you” (Isaiah 26:3).

The story is told that the false prophet Hananiah prophesied to king Zedekiah. He said that the Lord would break the yoke of Babylon, and within two years return all the articles that Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon had taken. The Lord was displeased and gave Jeremiah the message that he would remove Hananiah from the earth within that same year (Jeremiah 28:1-16).

Many centuries later, the apostle Paul named some false teachers which included, Demas, Hymenaeus, and Philetus. He said Demas was in love with the world and deserted him (2 Timothy 4:10), while Hymenaeus and Philetus’ talk would spread like gangrene (2 Timothy 2:17).

Interestingly, false prophets and teachers were present during the Old and New Testament era, likewise, they exist today. Scripture says that Satan and his angels disguise themselves as angels of light (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). We are further warned that the wheat and tares will grow together, until the day of harvesting when they will be separated (Matthew 13:30). As long as the human race exists, so will false prophets and teachers. Hence, we should not be alarmed when we encounter them or hear of them. Instead, we ought to develop a close relationship with Jesus through prayer, praise, study of his word, and fasting. This will ensure that we do not fall prey to false prophecies and teachings.

Heavenly Father, thanks for your word, as it prepares us for the present and future. Please grant us the desire, wisdom, and discipline to develop an intimate relationship with you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
