15 Bible Verses That Prove The Prosperity Gospel Wrong

Grace and peace be unto you.

The prosperity gospel is the belief that God wants us to always have financial blessings and be in good health. Proponents of this gospel teach that faith and positive words will motivate God to answer our prayers. Some verses that show the error of the prosperity gospel are;

1. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take away my thorn in the flesh. But he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. (2 Corinthians 12:8-9).

2. Now Elisha had been suffering from the illness from which he died… (2 Kings 13:14).

3. I have worked hard and long, enduring many sleepless nights. I have been hungry and thirsty and have often gone without food. I have shivered in the cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm. (2 Corinthians 11:27).

4. The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me. (Matthew 26:11).

5. All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I had been eager to do all along. (Galatians 2:10).

6. There will always be some in the land who are poor. That is why I am commanding you to share freely with the poor and with other Israelites in need. (Deuteronomy 15:11).

7. Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5).

8. Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. (1 Timothy 6:6-8).

9. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. (1 John 5:14).

10. Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21).

Heavenly Father, thank you for showing us that the prosperity gospel is antibiblical. Help us to love your word. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. (2 Timothy 4:3-4).
