God Gave You The Blessing; He Will Defend It

Grace and peace be unto you.

What did you bring into this world? What will you take with you when you die? Everything in this world belongs to God. He gives us a variety of blessings to use for his glory during our sojourn. Consequently, he is displeased when people try to take our blessings. He is very kind and gives to everyone generously, therefore he encourages his children to ask him for what they need or want (1 John 5:14).

The story is told that God empowered Joshua to defeat the Ammonites and he took their land from Arnon to the Jabbok, all the way to the Jordan. Three hundred years later, the king of the Ammonites decided to attack the Israelites. Hence, Jephthah, the Israelites’ commander sent a message asking for the reason behind the pending attack. The king responded that the Israelites had stolen their land and they intend to reclaim it.

Jephthah sent another message explaining that the land was not stolen since it was given to the Israelites by God. He further stated that they would hold on to it while trusting God to make the final decision. The king ignored the message. Nonetheless, before the Ammonites could attack, the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jephthah and he went to war against the Ammonites. God gave them over to Jephthah, he destroyed twenty towns, and Israel conquered Ammon (Judges 11:1-33).

God made the decision that the land would remain with the Israelites. Unfortunately, many Ammonites died in the process. Their lives could have been spared if the king had accepted Jephthah’s explanation. But he was more concerned with taking away the Israelite’s blessing. No doubt, he learned to respect God’s decision.

Everything belongs to God and he gives it to whomever he pleases (Psalm 24:1-2). If God has given you a blessing, for example, a business or land, and someone is trying to take it away, communicate with them where possible. Gently and lovingly tell them that the Lord gave it to you and by his power you will keep it. Then, give the concern to God, continue serving him wholeheartedly, and enjoy your life. He does not want you to spend a minute of your life worrying about your blessing (Philippians 4:6). He will protect it.

Heavenly Father, we praise you because you are loving and just. Help us to accept the truth that you will defend our blessings. In Jesus’ name, amen.
