Grace and peace be unto you.
Are you in the habit of ignoring people because of particular characteristics? When you see someone, how do you decide whether or not to engage in small talk? God created us in his Image which means that we are valuable. Scripture says, “He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous” (Matthew 5:45). Similarly, he wants us to be gracious to everyone.
The parable is often told about the man who was travelling from Jerusalem to Jericho. Unfortunately, he was attacked by thieves, beaten, robbed and left partially nude on the road. A priest and Levite travelled on the road, saw the man and did not assist him. Nonetheless, a Samaritan came by, had compassion on him, administered first aid, and took him to an inn where he got further help (Luke 10:30-35).
The Samaritan and Jews were enemies, yet the Samaritan helped the man. Are you willing to help your enemies? Love does not focus on race, religion, ethnicity, status or offences. It sees human beings who are precious in God’s sight. When we genuinely love, we understand that one of our responsibilities is to help anyone in need who crosses our path. The truth is that, God placed you in this generation to show his love to everyone you meet (Romans 12:10).
Heavenly Father, thanks for your guidance. Help us to intentionally show your love to others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
