Grace and peace be unto you.
The story is told that Absalom conspired to kill David and establish himself as king. Hence, after David fled Jerusalem, Absalom consulted with his advisor, Ahithophel on the way forward. He suggested that Absalom mobilize twelve thousand men and immediately pursue David and his men. This strategy would give them the advantage to defeat David and his men, since they were tired and weak. Absalom was not sold on the idea and consulted with Hushai. Hushai was David’s advisor who pledged loyalty to Absalom but remain faithful to David.
Hushai told Absalom that Ahithophel suggestion was not appropriate. He stated that David and his men were fighters and would repel the attack. He recommended that Absalom mobilized all the Israelites and pursue David instead. Unknowing to Absalom, this method would give David adequate time to rest and prepare his army to fight. God favored Hushai’s idea and Absalom accepted it. Hushai then secretly sent a message to David informing him of the plan and warned him not to stay at the Jordan River, but to cross in the wilderness (2 Samuel 17:1-15).
Oftentimes, when people plot against us, they overlook the obvious that God sees everything and will work their plans in our favor. This mistake gives them the illusion that they will win and so they confidently execute their plan. Nonetheless, by the time they realize their error, it is too late, and their plan fails badly. Scripture says, “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:9).
Interestingly, while David was running from his son, God was working through his son to give him the victory. Similarly, while you are having sleepless nights or embracing addictive behaviors, because of people who are trying to harm you, God is working through them to give you success. For this reason, he is asking you to obey his word and trust him wholeheartedly (Proverbs 3:5).
Heavenly Father, we praise you because you are all-wise and always ahead of our enemies. In Jesus’s name, amen.
