Grace and peace be unto you.
Are you confident that God is with you? How often do you initiate tasks without consulting him? God promised to be with us always. But he did not promise to give us success in every activity. Sometimes we are overzealous and take on “good activities” without his approval. Scripture says, “Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you” (Psalm 37:5).
The story is told that David was hiding from Saul, when he heard that the Philistines were attacking Keilah. Therefore, he enquired of the Lord if he should fight the Philistines. God gave him permission and assured him that he would deliver them into his hands. Hence, he and his men went to Keilah, fought the Philistines, and saved the city.
Not long afterwards, David was informed that Saul knew his location and was plotting against him. Consequently, he asked God if Saul was coming down to Keilah and he said “Yes.” Then he asked him if the citizens of Keilah would surrender him to Saul and he said “Yes.” As a result, he and his men left the city (1 Samuel 23:1-13). The truth is that, our lives would be more fulfilled if we consult with God frequently.
David knew that God was with him, even so, he sought his permission before attacking the Philistines. As such, he was successful. It is not sufficient to know that God is with us in order to do a task, we must ask him if he wants us to do it. The reality is that God does not want us to do every task that presents. Some of them are distractions from our purpose. And so, he encourages us to seek his face regarding every opportunity, and wait for a response. We can prevent heartaches and save time if we ask his permission before starting activities.
Heavenly Father, thank you for being our loving guide. Please grant us the wisdom and discipline to seek your face concerning every opportunity. In Jesus’ name, amen.
