God’s Secret Is For Him To Reveal

Grace and peace be unto you.

The story is told that Saul’s search for his father’s donkeys led him to Samuel who was expecting him. Acting on God’s instructions, Samuel privately anointed him as king and told him that the donkeys were found. When Saul returned home, he informed his uncle that he met Samuel. His uncle asked him what Samuel told him. He shared the information regarding the donkeys being found but withheld his selection as king (1 Samuel 9; 10: 1-16).

There is a time and place for everything under the sun (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Saul understood that it was neither the time nor place to divulge the information. God does his works in private and public. His private actions indicate that he is not ready for them to become public. Hence, he was pleased when Saul kept the information to himself.

Oftentimes, when God shares his plan with us in private, he knows that it’s not safe to publicly announce it. And so, he trusts us to keep his secret until he reveals it. The plan is his, therefore when the time is right, he will make it known. Sadly, sometimes, we are so excited about being used by God that we tell as many people as possible, to our own detriment. Scripture says, “Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble” (Proverbs 21:23).

The reality is that there are people who will intentionally or unintentionally try to destroy God’s plan. They may tell us that we do not have the qualifications and we are over-reaching or the plan is insignificant and will not yield financial rewards. Others may put road blocks in our path and try to harm us (Genesis 37:23-28). Hence, if we are not adequately prepared when the plan is shared, we will become discouraged and discard it.

Consequently, God is asking us to allow him to publicly announce his plan. He will do so when the following are evident; (1) We can appropriately and adequately respond to those who agree with us and oppose us, (2) A support system is in place.

Heavenly Father, we praise you because your timing is perfect. Help us to keep your secret. In Jesus’ name, amen.
