Grace and peace be unto you.
Have you noticed that God has a unique way of creating or using situations to accomplish his plan? Scripture says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). As a result, he encourages us to worry about nothing and trust him completely (Philippians 4:6; Proverbs 3:5).
The story is told that Saul’s father Kish lost his donkeys and instructed Saul to take one of the servants and search for them. Saul obeyed and the search led them to the district of Zuph where Samuel lived. By that time, it was rather late and Saul was concerned that his father might be worried about them. Hence, he suggested to his servant that they should return home. But his servant told him that a man of God lived in Zuph and would tell them how to find the donkeys, therefore, they should go and see him. Saul agreed and they set out to find Samuel.
As they entered the town, they saw Samuel coming towards them. Interestingly, the day before, God said to Samuel, “About this time tomorrow I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin. Anoint him ruler over my people Israel…” When Samuel saw Saul, God told him that he was the one, and he would govern the Israelites (1 Samuel 9:1-17).
Saul’s plan was to find his fathers’ donkeys, return home, and continue living his normal life. While God’s plan was for him to be anointed as king and deliver the Israelites from the hand of the Philistines. Even so, Saul’s activities lead him directly into God’s plan. Perhaps you are wondering if you are in God’s plan. Well, there is no harm in entertaining the thought. However, I encourage you to continue trusting God and doing the daily tasks that he presents. Similar to Saul, if you are not in his plan, your activities will lead you into it. He knows how to create miracles.
Heavenly Father, you are a mystery. Help us to trust you as we do our daily activities. In Jesus’ name, amen.
