Grace and peace be unto you.
How often have we passed judgement on others while harboring secret sins? Or how often have we called out others for their shortcomings while pretending to be morally upright? Scripture says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Consequently, it is public knowledge that we are all sinners, even if our sins are not publicly known. As a result, we are doing our ministry and God a disservice when we pretend to be otherwise.
The story is told that God brought a charge against the Israelites for their unfaithfulness. He said that they all had sinned, hence, none of them were worthy to accuse or bring a charge against another. He emphasized that they sin day and night (Hosea 4:4-5). In a similar fashion, the apostle Matthew wrote, “Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye” (Matthew 7:5).
Many of us know how to say and do the right things in public to please observers. But sadly, in private where our Heavenly Father sees our words and deeds, we are woefully lacking. What does God expect of us? He desires that we repent of our sins and turn from our evil ways. Then, he wants us to help restore our fallen brothers and sisters in a spirit of gentleness (Galatians 6:1). When we do, our righteousness will shine forth like the morning star and he will get the glory.
Heavenly Father, thanks for your guidance. Help us to repent of our sins, embrace humility, and empathize with others in their weakness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
