You Have Been Weighed On The Scales And Found Wanting

Grace and peace be unto you.

Do you use God’s blessings to glorify his name? Is God pleased with how you use his blessings? God created us for his glory (Isaiah 43:7), therefore, he is pleased when we use our gifts and resources to honor him. Scripture says, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31).

The story is told that King Nebuchadnezzar was succeeded by his son, Belshazzar. Unfortunately, he failed to honor God as his father had done. And so, God told him that, “He was weighed on the scales and found wanting.” Shortly afterwards, God removed him from the throne and gave the kingdom to the Medes and Persians (Daniel 5). God puts us in positions to glorify his name and replaces us when we consistently refuse to obey his command. Scripture says, “Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him” (Psalm 115:3).

When God looks at your behavior, can he boast about you similar to how he boasted about Job? (Job 1:8) or does he think that you have been weighed on the scales and found wanting? God desires that no one should perish but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). Hence, he has given us his Holy Spirit and Holy Word to empower us along our journey.

Perhaps you are in a situation where God has given you many warnings to desist from your evil practices and obey him. Yet still, you continue in your rebellious ways. The psalmist wrote, “The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made” (Psalm 145:9). As such, he is giving you another opportunity to repent and follow him, “If you confess your sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive you your sins, and purify you from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

I encourage you to confess your sins, turn from your evil ways, and you will not be found wanting. May God bless you as you obey his Word.
