The Name of Jesus

Grace and peace be unto you.

Word of Encouragement…

“Finally, Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her” (Acts 16:18).

Authority to Use Jesus’s Name

Before His ascension, Jesus said to His disciples, “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son” (John 14:13). Paul obeyed this instruction and the slave was set free. Sometimes, we overlook the importance of Jesus’s name which results in missed opportunities. When Jesus died on the cross, He conquered sin and death, Hence He has power over everything. He has given us the authority to use that power in His name. Does this mean we can ask Him for anything and He will give it to us?

I recall trying to purchase a house over decades ago, and claiming it in the name of Jesus, well, the purchase did not materialize. Some people might say that my faith was not strong enough, but I say it was not in God’s will. The Bible says, “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4) When we spend time in God’s presence, that is, praying, reading His Word, fasting, meditating on His Word, and praising Him, we understand his desires and plan. As such, we ask Him for things that will help us to accomplish our divine purpose, and he grants our request. God will not answer our prayers when our requests are contrary to his plan, the apostle James says, “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures” (James 4:3).

The name of Jesus is ineffective without faith.

Interestingly, a few years ago, I saw a housing development and asked Jesus for one of the houses. I waited patiently for His response, not knowing if the house was in his plan for me. But, I believed with all of my heart that He had the power to give it to me (Psalm 62:11). And to my great delight, He answered my prayer. When we make requests in Jesus’s name, we must believe that He can and will grant them (John 14:12). Paul confidently cast out the spirit because He believed that it could be done in the name of Jesus. Have you ever used the name of Jesus? What are some of the results you have seen? When we choose to believe in Jesus’s name, we are on the path to doing great things for him.

Heavenly Father, I pray that we will study your Word and understand the importance of making requests in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, in Jesus’s name, Amen.

“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:16).

  1. I used to think there were special powers using the words “in the name of Jesus”… like God wouldn’t hear my prayer if I didnt say those words at the end… or i would use those words to try and manipulate spiritual forces… I understand it differently now… “In the Name of Jesus” means to be in the power of the Holy Spirit… meaning to be led by the Spirit so that He does His work in us and thru us… 🙏🏻
