“For I know the plans, I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and future” (Jeremiah 29:11).
I heard the story of a Christian couple who tried for many years to have a child without success. They prayed, fasted, tithed regularly, and gave sacrificial offerings but to no avail. The ordeal was painful and disappointing as the months slowly turn into years and their expectations were not met. Their sorrow was intensified when some of their fellow believers enquired about the expansion of their family. Eventually, they accepted the reality that God had another plan, which led to them adopting a child. The truth is that it was never God’s plan for them to be biological parents. Today, the couple is enjoying their child and grateful to God for his wonderful gift.
You might have had a similar experience in which your major plan did not work out and you had to find an alternative. Interestingly, the alternative was not an accident, it was God’s major plan. The Bible says in 1 John 5:14, “This is the confidence that we have in approaching God that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” When we make requests according to God’s will we are embracing his plan and releasing ours. In such situations, sometimes we are unsure of the answers to our prayers. However, we are assured that if the outcome is not what we expected, it is okay, because we are in God’s plan.
